MONTEPULCIANO: Nobile Wine and the best cold cuts!
Meet Serena, your personal local guide, sommelier and food expert. Overview of the town and introduction to the surrounding area: Val d’Orcia, a truly fairytale-like region!
Montepulciano is the “pearl” of the Italian Renaissance, a real jewel perched on top of a hill, one of the most ancient towns in Tuscany, dating back to 400 BC. Let’s enjoy a nice walk through the historic center, the noble palaces and the best highlights. Art and history will surround you! We will visit the main street leading us to Piazza Grande, the real Acropolis of the town. We will also stop at artisanal ateliers: the 85-year-old coppersmith, the pottery artist, the leather craftsman and the mosaic master. Listen to their stories and admire their incredible works!
Our morning tour will end with the visit to an underground historical wine cellar, where the delicious Vino Nobile has been naturally aged for centuries. Vino Nobile is one of the finest Italian D.O.C.G. wines: a deep, bold and intense red, produced in very small quantities with Sangiovese grapes and renowned worldwide.
Lunch will be in a very special place, just 5 minutes from the town: the Ethical Happy Piglets Farm! We will visit the farm, the vineyard and the olive grove, meet the owner, feed and cuddle the Cinta Senese piglets!
Cinta Senese is an ancient pig breed dating back to the 1300s. We know it was the traditional local pig in the Middle Ages thanks to a 1339 fresco in Siena’s City Hall, where a white-and-black “Cinta” pig is clearly visible.
This little magical place is an ethical farm where animals live a happy life outdoors in the sun, free to run and dig everywhere, before becoming Prosciutto and Salami. Lunch at the farm includes local dishes and a big tray with at least 5 different cold cuts produced onsite, along with local cheeses. A wide variety of flavorful cured meats: truly the best of the best of Tuscan traditional cold cuts! An authentic and unique experience.
Lunch: to be paid onsite (€45 per person, includes private farm tour and 4-course lunch with drinks and coffee)
Wine tasting in Montepulciano: included in the guide fee
